As Diwali approaches, the festive spirit is spreading across India with lights, colors, and joy filling every corner. Adding to the excitement, students and teachers are set to enjoy an extended holiday this year. The government has announced a long Diwali break for schools, allowing everyone to celebrate the festival of lights with family and friends.
According to an official notification issued by the education department, all government and private schools up to the higher secondary level in Jammu and Kashmir will remain closed from October 19 to November 2, 2025. Schools will reopen on November 3. This 15-day holiday includes major festivals such as Diwali, Govardhan Puja, and Bhai Dooj, ensuring students and staff can fully enjoy the celebrations.
The announcement has created a wave of happiness among children and teachers. After months of continuous studies, assignments, and exams, this long break brings a much-needed pause. Students have already started preparing for the festivities — decorating their homes, shopping for clothes, and making plans for family gatherings. Teachers are equally delighted to have time to rest and celebrate with loved ones before the new academic term begins.
Similar festive holidays have been declared in other states too. Rajasthan has announced a 12-day Diwali vacation, while schools in Bihar will close for a week starting October 18. In Delhi, a three-day Diwali break has been granted, and schools in Uttar Pradesh will remain closed from October 20 to 23, extending to six days in some districts.
Officials have clarified that examinations scheduled for the last week of October will be postponed until after the holidays. Schools have been directed to issue revised timetables and inform students accordingly.
The long Diwali break not only brings joy but also provides valuable time for relaxation and rejuvenation. It helps students return to class refreshed and motivated, while teachers can prepare for upcoming lessons. The government’s decision has been widely welcomed, marking this festive season as one filled with happiness, togetherness, and celebration across the country.
